Southern Lights and Southern Hospitality

" Steven Johnson is a man who greets you with a kind smile and a good, firm handshake. Steven drove out to our home to see the installation site and listen to our needs for a new solar system. We wanted to minimize our carbon footprint and produce enough electricity to meet our needs at peak times and bank the electricity we use for cloudy days. While sharing photographs and stories from other satisfied customers, Steven invited us to see another solar array that he had installed nearby. There we met Roger, who praised Southern Lights and the work that Steven had completed for him. The solar array was built to last and impressively mounted on a very sturdy rack system which we decided to go with. Steven is a thorough, organized, and detail-oriented man who really cares about his work. He makes sure everything meets or exceeds all expectations.

Steven is a trained, certified and bonded electrician, in whom we have the utmost confidence. At each step, Steven walked us through the installation process while he installed the newest, state of the art solar panels with onboard inverters to maximize our electrical output.

Our solar array installation consisted of 16 panels and was installed in only 2 days. (One day for the rack, and one day for the panels.) With his son Pat working with him, the installation went smoothly. Thinking about installing solar panels and tapping into the natural power of the sun? We highly recommend calling Steven at Southern Lights. He is the man to get you connected to the power of the sun. We could not be happier with our new solar panels!"

Excerpts from the Roger and Mary Ellithorpe’s 2011 and 2012 Christmas Card
[In rhyme]

2011: Of late I have no patience when a storm front passes through. I scan the weather radar and rejoice when skies are blue, Because I now have solar panels set up in the field And nastier the weather goes, the lower goes the yield.

For techies: 5 point 4 K dubya, eighteen panel rack, Grid-tied on ground mounts (tiltable), 6 wide by 3 high stack. About two thirds of average use this set up should provide, Assuming that the sun will shine and numbers haven’t lied!

2012: It has been a full year since I got the solar panels on line and they are working as planned. I have paid only service charges to the power company since April of this year (2012)—YEE HAH! I was very fortunate to receive a rebate on the solar installation from the State of Illinois, which I did not expect, so with the federal tax credit and the rebate added in, my payback is down to eight or so years. It’s amazing to me to stand next to the inverter and see thousands of watts being created with no moving parts and no emissions. Sometimes I just stand there and smile.

"Nice and bright and I wish I would have done it sooner."
Dr. Vancil, DDS - Carbondale, IL

"Carbondale New School (CNS), a tuition based, parent owned school serves pre-k through eight grade students and occupies a school house nearly 100 years old. Maintaining a building of this age requires consent work to ensure a safe environment and encourage a pleasant learner atmosphere for our students. As a private school, funds for major improvements must come from the parents.

Inadequate lighting and out of date lighting fixtures had left this wonderful place of learning dark, dingy, and not conducive to good learning conditions. When Steven Johnson, owner of Southern Lights, enrolled his children in CNS, he immediately approached the Board of Directors about the poor light conditions and presented studies proving that poor lighting had negative effects on staff productivity and children's learning abilities. A cost analysis on the money being wasted maintaining the old inefficient lighting fixtures and the money that would be saved by installing new technology was presented.

Thanks to Southern Lights and Mr. Johnson (who volunteered all his time and labor), Carbondale New School has all new energy efficient lighting. As a result of the new lights, CNS has reduced energy costs, more light for less money, and our old building is brighter, happier, and a more productive place of learning.

I recommend Southern Lights for all your lighting needs. They really do provide not just bright lights but the right lights."
